OLE Man (On A) River
Wednesday 22nd February 2017
Ken Robertshaw gave a fascinating talk to the February meeting of the Society on his nine-week journey down the Mississippi river in a kayak.
|The 2,350 mile trip started in a wilderness close to the Canadian border where beaver dams and overgrown bullrushes had to be overcome. By the time he reached St Louis the river was one mile wide and the dangers included avoiding Paddle Steamers.|
|The banks of the lower river were heavily industrialised and traffic consisted of ocean going ships and enormous freight vessels. He also described the wildlife he had seen and the friendships he had made in his remarkable journey.|
