How we used to eat

Society Member, Patricia Atkinson, gave an interesting and amusing talk on how we ate in former times.

She spoke about kitchen implements used in 17th century homes and compared them with what we use today. Tricia had brought a wide range of early examples with her for the audience to inspect and try to identify.

She had found that a large proportion of kitchen implements from the late Tudor period and the 17th century were used in a great variety of sizes and styles. They have survived with few changes to the present day.

The earliest cooking and baking guides also carried advice on other items that domestic staff should be able to manufacture, such as soaps, and recommended dishes and drinking vessels to use.
