Guest Speaker, Nigel Smith, gave a vivid account of two visits he had made to the Kingdom of Bhutan. This small country of just 750,000 people is situated between India and China in the Eastern Himalayas. It is a Constitutional Monarchy with Buddism as the state religion. The population is very friendly and helpful towards visitors, many of whom are on trekking trips or surveying the wonderful wildlife. The country is economically progressing but 80% of people are employed in agriculture or livestock keeping.
