Alan Brooks gave a richly informative presentation about India and the Hope Children’s Village at the Society’s meeting in the Maurice Jagger Centre on November 30th.
The Village is situated in the region of Kerala in south-west India and provides homes and education for orphan and abandoned children. It is supported entirely by charitable donations and Mr Brooks gave a vivid insight into the life of the village school, the children and the local communities. He also spoke of the support received from Rotary organisations in Calderdale and fund raising work to ensure its future development. Afterwards, Alice Cather provided Christmas Cake and other seasonal fare for supper.
The next meeting of the Society is its New Year Dinner on January 14th in the Wool Merchant Hotel.
